The main focus of this course is to give students experience in all areas of Home & Careers. The food science unit will consist of basic nutrition and nutrition labeling. Setting the table and table manners will be stressed throughout the foods unit. Manners will be addressed for everyday usage including proper etiquette for the cell phone, internet safety as well as social media. In the textile unit the students will review basic sewing equipment, sewing safety, laundry, and complete a sewing project by hand. The interior design unit will allow students to decorate a house using templates, the color wheel and all aspects of design layout. Throughout the consumer unit the students will become lifelong learners as they follow directions, set goals, budget, practice teamwork and organizational skills. Students will explore careers on designated internet sites, learn interviewing skills, and complete a professional resume on the computer. Organizational skills and modern technology will be used to meet the state standards. Grade is determined by: notebook, class work, test/quizzes, cooking labs and projects.
