Math 8 (M8): 1.0 Unit
This course follows the standards outlined by the NYS Learning Standards for Math. Instructional time will focus on three areas: (1) formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations; (2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; (3) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem. Requirements include: homework, quizzes, unit tests, benchmark assessments, projects, and the NYS Math assessment.
Algebra I (C371): 1.0 Unit
This course follows the standards outlined by the NYS Learning Standards for Math. This is a high school level course which culminates with the NYS Common Core Algebra I Regents. Students will develop skills and processes to be applied to problem solving in a variety of settings including: linear equations, quadratic functions, absolute value and exponential functions, coordinate geometry, system of equations, data analysis, right triangle trigonometry and probability. Requirements include: homework, quizzes, tests, quarterly assessments, final exam. These students are exempt from the NYS Math assessment. Successful completion of this course with a minimum grade of 65, and successful completion of the associated Regents Exam of 65, will result in 1.0 high school credits in mathematics.
Please note, this course is a high school level course. This course's final grade and if applicable, associated Regents exam, will be posted to the student's permanent high school transcript. The final course grade earned for this course will be calculated into a student's overall high school cumulative grade point average and credits earned may be used towards graduation requirements.
Prerequisite: Grade of 85 + in Math 7 Honors
